Teknion Corporation announced today the opening of the company’s new showroom in Boston. Situated at State Street adjacent to the historic Long Wharf – in the heart of Boston's financial district and close to the city’s A&D community – the relocated and larger 7,900-square-foot (734 m²) showroom was designed to address the needs of an emerging generation of workplaces.
“Our latest Boston space provides a warm, engaging setting that showcases the diverse Teknion product line and illustrates our thinking about work and the modern workplace,” said Maxine Mann, President of Teknion’s U.S. operations. “With Boston we launch our new direction in showroom concept, reflecting the evolution of the Teknion brand and product portfolio in harmony with evolving ways of work.”
Designed by Vanderbyl Design, with tvsdesign as the architect of record, the Boston showroom offers a subtle residential sensibility. Upon entering the space visitors are welcomed with an open, casual meeting area defined by a generous bench table. The table, which extends nearly the entire depth of the space, is large enough to accommodate several guests and staff members. This “hearth” table encourages conversation and collaboration among Teknion representatives and clients, replicating a contemporary office landscape of shared spaces that encourage informal interaction.
Behind the hearth space, the design integrates a library lounge composed of a built-in cushioned bench flanked by custom built-in bookshelves that display the collection of books researched, written and published by Teknion on the evolution of work and workplace design. Adjacent to the hearth is an open lounge and coffee/wine bar.
An extensive Teknion Textiles collection and a full complement of product finishes are displayed on a large workbench that offers a generous amount of space to lay out samples and swatches in order to combine and coordinate products to create palette concepts. The space also features the fresh, contemporary design vocabulary of Teknion Studio furniture for the new office, and B&B Italia’s Project Collection – a coordinated offering of tables, chairs, high-end casegoods and soft seating.
Teknion’s Optos and Altos glass wall systems are used to provide full-height space division in the showroom, defining offices and conference rooms. The wall systems also maintain a sense of spaciousness while allowing an abundance of natural light to penetrate throughout.
The showroom provides an attractive, light-filled environment that integrates a welcoming entry and collaborative workspace with a custom-designed library, lounge and coffee/wine bar that impart a very individual look and feel to the space. The new space is one that elegantly represents the Teknion brand, which brings intelligence and innovation to the international contract furniture market. Teknion has registered its new Boston showroom with the U.S. Green Building Council with the certification goal of LEED-CI Platinum.
Located at 255 State Street, 3rd Floor, Boston, MA 02109, the showroom is available for tours by reservation at 617.487.6960.
